Binding: Contemporary full calf, spines gilt in compartments with small star tools, black morocco spine labels with gilt volume numbers. Boards plain with simple gilt roll-tooled borders, marbled endpapers (pink, blue, and black on white). Wear to spines, edges rubbed, corners bumped, headcaps chipped, joints splitting but holding.
Description: An early 19th-century Parisian edition of Bélisaire, a work originally written by Jean-François Marmontel (1767) and here re-issued under the name of Madame de Genlis, the celebrated French writer, educator, and salonnière who dominated Parisian intellectual life during the late Enlightenment and Napoleonic periods.
Condition: Good. Bindings rubbed with losses at headcaps, corners bumped, spines worn and cracked but cords holding. Internally some foxing and toning, occasional staining to prelims, text largely clean and complete. Marbled endpapers intact and attractive.
Annotation: None present beyond ownership wear; no inscriptions visible in the provided images.
