Description: Complete in three volumes. Abbé Millot, a member of the Académie Française, was a highly regarded Enlightenment historian whose Éléments de l’Histoire d’Angleterre offered an accessible yet erudite account of English history from the Roman conquest through to the reign of George II. Written for a cultivated 18th-century audience, Millot’s work reflects both the rationalist spirit of the Enlightenment and the political interests of pre-Revolutionary France, where English constitutional developments were closely studied.

Condition: Good. Complete in three volumes, in uniform contemporary mottled calf with red-sprinkled edges that remain vivid. Bindings show moderate to heavy wear: surface scuffs and abrasions to boards, corners bumped, and headcaps chipped with small losses. Spines rubbed with loss of gilt detail; one label partly missing, others dulled but still legible. Some splitting to leather along joints but boards remain attached and bindings structurally sound. Interiors generally clean and legible, though with occasional foxing and toning; vol. III with a pronounced dampstain to the title page and prelims. Despite external wear, this is a complete and appealing Revolutionary-era set, retaining the charm of its red-sprinkled edges and original 18th-century bindings.
