Description: A commanding folio Sammelband bringing together two of the principal works of Reinhard Bachov von Echt, celebrated Heidelberg professor of law and one of the leading continental jurists of the early seventeenth century.
Tractatus de Actionibus (1623): Bachov’s sweeping treatment of civil and Roman legal actions, bridging Justinianic law with contemporary practice. His analysis of remedies and procedure shaped courtroom debate in Germany and beyond.
Tractatus de Pignoribus et Hypothecis (1627): His magisterial commentary on pledges and mortgages, foundational to commercial and property law.
Together, the works form a monumental contribution to European jurisprudence, here preserved in a contemporary vellum binding with manuscript spine title. This imposing folio volume, still crisp and clean in its leaves, embodies the intellectual gravitas of early modern Heidelberg.
Provenance: With the armorial bookplate of Fossé d’Arcosse, Jurisdictionis Consularis Praeses, Suessione, attesting to distinguished legal ownership. Contemporary manuscript shelf marks and signatures to title-pages.
Condition: Contemporary vellum lightly darkened and spotted, but sound and attractive; textblocks clean, crisp, and well-preserved, with only minor foxing. A handsome and imposing copy.
